About
The frosty 151 Swizzle. For when you’re feelin’ like you need a stiff drink but still want something totally delicious. This tiki drink is traditionally served in a metal Swizzle Cup which has a flared top, but alas my homebar only has so much space for specialized glassware, so we make do. Swizzles are a class of cocktails created thru the act of ‘swizzling’ a spirit (usually rum) with the typical sweet-sour-spice flavors, and a lot of cold, crushed ice. Flavorwise, it can vary greatly depending on the ingredients chosen, but the key to a great swizzle is making sure the drink is icy cold with more frost than you can handle (hence the metal tin!).
For swizzling, traditionally the stems of a native Caribbean tree were used (these “bois lele” look like a multi-pronged jack on the end of a stick) to mix up the drink thoroughly by rolling the stick between the palms in an up-and-down motion until the drink is icy cold and a beautiful layer of frost has developed. Because I’m lazy, I used a blender. This is an absolutely delicious concoction that WILL hit ya with its 3oz equivalent of liquor. Cheers!
