Giffard Pamplemousse liqueur. I am a huuuuge grapefruit fan, and as such have been eyeing this liqueur since I first heard about it (Pamplemousse is French for grapefruit). Being the mega fan I am (fav fruit hands down), I’m often disappointed by the grapefruit flavors I find in food/drinks since they are usually vastly mediocre compared to the fresh grapefruits that I will usually peel and eat like an orange.
Well, this one definitely DID NOT disappoint. Somehow, Giffard has been able to magically capture and bottle the fresh and floral essence that you find with a freshly peeled grapefruit, rife with those beautiful citrus peel oils. The scent and flavor of this liqueur is absolutely gorgeous, and it is for sure one of the freshest liqueurs I own!
And here’s your interesting tidbit of the day. As much as I loooove grapefruit, I’ve only recently learned of the grapefruit-drug interaction problem. As it turns out, one of the chemical compounds in grapefruit inhibits an enzyme responsible for processing/metabolizing certain drugs in the body, which can intensify the effects of certain medication. As a result, you can end up with potentially lethal concentrations of the drug in your body. So, enjoy your grapefruit, but if you’re taking any prescription medication, beware. 😉
