About

The original recipe first came about in the 1800s and this drink is actually the predecessor of the famed martini. Even with the resurgence of many other popular classic cocktails from the same era (Manhattan, Negroni, Old Fashioned, etc), somehow this one has remained under the radar. Personally, though I’d somewhat heard of it, I was not familiar with it at all despite being a huge gin fan. Thought it was time to rectify that and here we are!

Verdict: I’m a fan. If you enjoy Martinis, Manhattans, and/or Negronis, you’ll definitely need to give this underrated drink a try and I think you’ll be quite pleased. It’s delicious, spirit-forward, and more complex than a simple martini, but not quite as heavy as a Negroni or Manhattan. This is one drink that definitely deserves more recognition!
