Angostura Orange Bitters

Angostura Orange Bitters. I’m quite a fan of these cocktail bitters. They are a citrusy, sweet, and fresh ingredient that will instantly add fruity brightness to your cocktails.

Angostura is most famous for their aromatic bitters, a necessity for any home imbiber; it’s thick, spice-filled, and just full of rich flavor. If Angostura aromatic is the spiced mulled wine of the bitters world, this is the orange sorbet. It is equally aromatic (but light and citrus-y instead of warm spice), and both bitter and sweet at the same time (bitter like orange pith as opposed to gentian root/wormwood-type bitter).

Compared to other popular orange bitters such as Regans’ and Fee Brothers, I’d say that this much more orange-like compared to Regans’ (which I find more herbal/medicinal/bracingly bitter with a hint of orange), but less candy-like/artificial than the Fee Brothers’ West Indian Orange bitters. It’s great for some applications and handy to have in a home bar.

Pro-tip: Walmart sells these bitters (plus the regular aromatic bitters) for just $5. You’re welcome. 😉
