Beefeater London Dry gin. I finally ran out of my Costco-sized Tanqueray (again…), and decided to switch it up this time and picked up a Costco-sized Beefeater (surprisingly cheaper than a smaller bottle less than half the size! <3Costco). This was actually my first time purchasing Beefeater and thumbs up! It’s lighter on the juniper notes compared to Tanqueray, but this is a perfect no-nonsense gin to keep around your bar! It mixes well, infuses amazingly (I made my Snap Pea Infused Gin with this), has a super ergonomic and crisp bottle design, and is also super affordable. What else could you want? 😉
Since gin is essentially a botanical-infused vodka, there is a ton of variety within the spirit using all sorts of different flavoring agents (with juniper being the only required shared component) and distilled using different techniques. For the basic home bar, you’ll likely want to keep a bottle of the classic London Dry style around. Ironically, most “London dry gins” these days are not actually produced in London, although Beefeater is one of the only remaining large brands still made there. London Dry Gin refers to the style of production, with its flavor distinction primarily defined by its minimal added sugar content lending to a crisp and clean spirit that makes it a perfect base for both classic and fun cocktails!
