Bittercube Jamaican bitters. If you’re a fan of rum, tiki, or love the depth of Caribbean flavors, you need these bitters in your life. As mentioned in prior posts onĀ cocktail bitters, bitters are pretty much the spices of the cocktail world, with the ability to jazz up and add that extra layer of depth to almost any drink.
Jamaican food is one of my personal favorites, though I do admit it’s something that has grown on me over time. Full of very strong flavors and rich spices, Jamaican cuisine is influenced by the cultures of its inhabitants throughout history. From the native inhabitants from South America, to the Spanish and later English colonists, to the enslaved Africans and indentured Indians (from India), Jamaican cuisine has a broad range of flavors, complex and inviting.
Bittercube offers two variants of “Jamaican” bitters, and they are both reflective of common flavors from the country, though sit on opposite sides of the spectrum.
- Jamaican no.1: Think Jamaican jerk chicken. This is full of warm spices…allspice (with notes of cinnamon and clove), ginger, with a tingle of heat from black pepper.
- Jamaican no.2: Think tropical island sweets. This is citrus-y…grapefruit, hibiscus, vanilla, but still tied together with a hint of warm spice.
