About
This is the pirate tiki mug from Death and Company. And it’s filled with the Black River Punch recipe by Kevin Upthegrove from 5 Minutes of Rum. This drink provides a perfect representation of a classic rum punch that would not be described as “fruity” or tropical, yet is full of the intense complex flavor combo we all love in many “tiki drinks.”
In addition to its backbone of a hefty dose of full-flavored rum (3 full ounces!), this punch includes all the key elements of a classic punch: alcohol, sugar, citrus, water, and tea/spice. It’s more of a Planter’s Punch (rum punches historically popular amongst sugar planters in the Caribbean, see Planter’s Punch) than tropical beachside libation, and follows the traditional template of “1 of sour, 2 of sweet, 3 of strong, 4 of weak” quite well. If the ingredients listed below seem enticing, give it a try and it will surely not disappoint.
