Recipe
From Harry Johnson’s 1900 Bartender’s Manual
- 2oz pot still Irish whiskey (Powers John’s Lane 12yr)
- 1oz blanc vermouth (Yzaguirre)
- 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
- Absinthe rinse
Spray a spritz (or roll a few drops) of absinthe in a cold glass. Stir all other ingredients and strain into the absinthe-rinsed glass. Add a twist of lemon peel for those aromatic oils.
About
Seriously, why did it take me so long to discover this super simple classic recipe?!
Irish whiskey is definitely an underrated modern cocktail ingredient, but it’s just such a deliciously balanced whiskey style that is fruity and light, yet still has that satisfying heft you’re looking for when you’re craving whiskey. This drink tastes like a lighter variant on a Manhattan, and ooooph, that absinthe rinse gets me every time.
