Recipe
- 2oz gin (Leopold Bros Summer Gin)
- .75oz Jardesca White Aperitiva (for a sub, try a 50/50 mix of dry&blanc vermouth)
- .5oz Giffard Pamplemousse liqueur
- (optional) Couple drops of black pepper tincture (homemade, see tips here)
Stir all ingredients with ice and strain over a fresh large cube. Peel a nice wide piece of orange and express the oils into the drink. This step is crucial to get the lovely freshness that makes this drink perfect. Rub the peel across the rim of the glass and drop into the drink.
About
I loved the pairing of Jardesca California Aperitiva (a botanical-infused fortified white wine) with grapefruit liqueur so much in my Wine Garden drink that I just had to go for the combo again. The grapefruit flavors in the Jardesca just blend so hamoniously with the Giffard grapefruit liqueur…an absolutely match made in heaven!
Jardesca is a wine-based spirit that is fortified with grape brandy with an array of lovely botanicals including grapefruit, pink peppercorn, and bay leaf. I took the combo and added a base of Leopold Bros’ Summer Gin, which is a citrus-forward floral gin with strong notes of blood orange (it’s limited edition so if you see this in stores, grab a bottle!).
I think of this sort of like a light gin-based Old Fashioned/Manhattan hybrid. Blood orange, pink grapefruit, need I say more? This is absolutely delicious and perfect for any lover of fresh citrus – I think that’s everyone, right? 😉
