Recipe
- 1.5oz Amaro Averna
- 1oz light rum (I used Plantation 3 Star)
- .75oz lemon juice
- Dash of Angostura bitters
- 2oz ginger ale (I used this hipster Bruce Cost one)
Combine everything except the ginger ale in a tall glass. Add ice, then top with ginger ale. Gently stir and enjoy.
About
First of all, can we please just admire this AMAZING tiki mug from Pagan Idol? I’m obsessed. *moment of silence*
Inside it, we have the Cosa Nostra #2. I got a bottle of Amaro Averna last Christmas and have regrettably not used it much! Ran out of limes in the house (only had lemons), so when I saw this recipe from the Smuggler’s Cove book using lemons and Averna, it was fate.
This drink uses a whole 1.5oz of the Italian amaro from Sicily, and it definitely shines through in the end product (FYI – “La Cosa Nostra” is actually a name for the Sicilian mafia). Taste-wise, I found this quite unique and interesting – gingery and bittersweet, with the essence of tiki.
