Recipe
- 1oz gin (try an Old Tom style or full bodied flavor-rich gin; I used Treaty Oak Waterloo no.9)
- 1oz dry vermouth (Noilly Prat Dry)
- 1 barspoon Bénédictine
- 3 dashes orange bitters
Stir all ingredients with ice, then strain into a coupe.
About
I’m often on the hunt for interesting historical Martini variants, preferably those on the drier/savory/herbal side. It’s so satisfying to strike gold.
Not all historical cocktails are great, but this one certainly checks all the boxes. This fabulous classic recipe was first published in a cocktail book from 1895. 1895! That’s over 120 years ago! Bursting with flavor with just enough mild sweetness to round it out, this drink is full of rich, borderline-savory botanical deliciousness.
