Jameson Irish Whiskey. This is the bottle that needs no introduction – everyone knows Jameson. Maybe you’ve had great experiences with it and maybe you’ve had the worst, but it’s indisputable they’ve built quite the name and following for themselves as one of the largest and most popular whiskey producers in the world.

I really don’t recall when exactly I got this bottle, but for me Jameson has always been a popular choice for those casual social gatherings and trips with friends. Though I don’t reach for this very often in the land of BarFaith, my favorite way to enjoy it? In a classic Irish coffee.

The introduction of Irish Coffee to the United States was actually from a little cafe named The Buena Vista in San Francisco that continues to exists to this day (and still serves up the original classic, sometimes up to a couple thousands a day!) The drink was recreated at The Buena Vista in 1952 (after much toil and trial & error) in an attempt to mimic a well-regarded coffee drink served at an airport in Ireland. And BOOM. Wildfire. History. Decades of popularity. Cultural spotlights. And along the way, some unfortunate drink bastardizations.

Contrary to what some common manifestations of this drink may lead you to drink, it actually contains no “Irish cream”, Baileys, Kahlua, and actually no whipped cream at all.
