Mahina Coconut liqueur. I got this fun liqueur recently and have been massively enjoying it! This is an agricole rhum based liqueur, made simply using 3 natural ingredients – macerating fresh young coconut in Clement unaged agricole rhum, sweetening with sugarcane syrup, and finally bringing down to a manageable 18% abv.
If the intensity of agricole rhum scares you, don’t worry – the flavor of this liqueur is NOT dominated by the grassy raw flavor of agricole. Rather, it’s actually INTENSELY coconut, and the agricole base just brightens up the flavor in a positive way. I’d say you can definitely taste the agricole base if you’re tasting for it, but otherwise you might not even realize it.
Anyway, this thing is so freakin easy to drink. I really like just pouring this over some ice with a squeeze of lime for a guilty treat when you’re trying to avoid drinking. Add a splash of soda water or tonic for a little fizz. Add some pineapple juice or a splash of bitters or aperitif to make it more interesting, a splash of liquor for a buzz, and from there the combos are endless.
If you’re looking for a natural coconut liqueur (that is not cloyingly sweet and enjoyable even on its own), you’ll want to check this out. If you’ve tried it, let me know what you think and how you enjoy!
