About

Okay, it’s Old Fashioned Week and this Maple Bacon Old Fashioned has become a go-to recipe in my household lately, especially when friends are visiting. It’s easy, unique, and a crowd pleaser.

If you’ve never tried bacon fat-washing a bourbon but have always been intrigued by the idea, don’t wait any longer and just go fry up some bacon! It is incredibly easy, takes almost no time beyond the bacon-cooking time, and the results are fabulous.

Sooo, just…

  • Fry your bacon and drain the grease
  • Once it’s cooled slightly but still liquid, pour it into some whiskey (3:1 or 4:1 whiskey to fat) into a jar
  • Shake it up once in a while for the next few hours
  • Stick it in the freezer to let the fat solidify for 24 hours
  • Remove from freezer and strain the whiskey
