About
This is the Millionaire Cocktail No. 1. This jammy and fruity sweet treat sits right between a classic daiquiri and a full-on complex tiki drink. This is really a cocktail that will highlight the importance of using quality ingredients, where your chosen ingredients will either make or break this drink.
With the right set (choose your liqueurs and spirit brands wisely), this is a delicious balanced cocktail that is not cloying. Choose the wrong set of low quality ingredients, and you’ve got yourself a sugarbomb and recipe for disaster.
The Millionaire No.1 is made from equal parts of funky Jamaican rum, apricot brandy, sloe gin, and lime juice, with an accent of grenadine.
- Jamaican rum: Use a bold Jamaican rum that is big on flavor. I’d suggest Coruba, Smith&Cross, Appleton, or a mix of your favorites
- Apricot brandy: This recipe refers to a sweet brandy liqueur, but please choose wisely and select one that is actually distilled from apricots to achieve the flavor. Many cheaper apricot brandies are made from neutral spirits with added apricot flavors. I’d recommend Giffard or Rothman&Winter.
- Sloe gin: This is another ingredient that has many low-quality imposters. Select one that is made by infusing gin with real sloe berries, not an artificially flavored/sweetened neutral spirit.
- Lime juice: Fresh, always
- Grenadine: Make your own (super easy!) or buy a high quality artisan brand. Stay away from neon explosives.
