Nocino liqueur

Nocino liqueur. I picked this up in Italy after enjoying it as a post-dinner digestivo following the largest meal I’ve had in my life.

Nocino is a traditional walnut liqueur originating from the Modena region of Italy. In the region, it’s quite customary for people to have their own family recipes and homemade versions of the liqueur. Made with unripe green walnuts, Nocino still exudes that familiar walnut nuttiness, but is also spicy and bittersweet, with significant flavor complexity and the pleasant warmth of a high-proof spirit. The oak flavors are quite prominent from its barrel-aging.

Adding some water to it really draws out the walnut flavors. Outside of this Toschi one, I’ve also seen Nocino walnut liqueurs made stateside. This will add incredible depth to any cocktail you whip up, and furthermore is incredibly tasty on its own over ice (with a citrus twist).
