About

The Paper Plane.
It’s a bit tart, a bit bitter, a bit fruity, and a bit whiskey-y. I can see why this is such a popular drink; it hits all the bases.

This drink is oft considered to be a “modern classic,” which basically just means it’s become so popular and widespread in cocktail culture but was invented during the 21st century cocktail revival rather than the original era of the classic classics of the 19th-20th centuries.

As popular as this drink is (inspiring many of its own riffs), it was only invented in 2007 as a fruitier riff of the more medicinal and botanical Last Word cocktail – an equal parts cocktail from the 50s that had only been rediscovered and revived a few years prior.

Maybe I’m in the minority here, but to be honest, this drink unfortunately really doesn’t wow me. That said, there’s no denying this is an extremely popular and well loved modern cocktail (and an excuse to pick up that bottle of Amaro Nonino! 😉), so if you haven’t tried it, give it a shake or order one at the bar next time!
