Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur. I’ve been seeing lots of beautiful creations and love for this new liqueur recently, and am so glad to have this in my collection. As the craft cocktail and spirits scene booms with its cultural popularity, we’re seeing more artisan brands popping up with beautiful modern creations that cater to today’s palate. Supply and demand, amazing huh?
Pomp & Whimsy is a fantastic example of this as a beautiful spirit that straddles between your traditional botanical-piney gin and a sweet fruit-forward liqueur. At 30% ABV, this is no lightweight, but the flavor is full of floral and citrus notes, along with your traditional gin palate of juniper, coriander, and such. It has a pleasant gentle sweetness that is not at all overbearing and totally drinkable on its own over ice. It’s somewhat akin to sloe gin (a gin infused with English sloe berries) in terms of gin intensity, but much less jammy&sweet, and more light&floral.
This bottle is fairly new on the market (only since Jan of this year) but I would not be surprised if I start seeing this around more bars soon. It really focuses on shining a new light on the world of gin to reach an audience that previously may have completely dismissed the spirit (hellooo, how many people had initial terrible experiences with gin and still avoid it?). In a world where the modern brunch-goer is obsessed with rosé, frozé, mimosas, champagne, and spritzes, this will fit right in.
Gin is such a beautiful spirit (and actually my first spirit love, ever), so I’d love to start seeing more people accept it and look past any terrible experiences with crappy gin. More demand, more supply!
