R.L. Seale’s 10 year rum. This funky shaped bottle (which even has a thumb holder indent!) is the namesake line of Richard Seale, master distiller and blender at the Foursquare Distillery on the Caribbean island of Barbados, and is one of best price-quality value rums around. In a market where rum has the mainstream reputation as a sweet and spiced “party” drink fit only for tropical drinks or monstrous hangovers, Foursquare stands firmly to challenge that notion.
Foursquare has recently generated some buzz in the spirits industry, capturing the attention of whisk(e)y drinkers with references to the “Pappy of rum.” Foursquare is one of limited rum producers making rum that is fully unadulterated with additives, sugar, and other unimaginables. Richard Seale is one of the most vocal advocates for transparency in rum production and any taste of his products will fully affirm that everything that comes out of Foursquare stays true to the tradition and purity of the spirit.
Foursquare bottles rums under several different lines/brands, including their Exceptional Casks series, The Real McCoy, and Doorly’s. That said, the R.L. Seale bottling (available at Total Wine in the US) is fantastic and super affordable (under $30) given the amazing quality of the product.
