About
The Last Word: a prohibition-era cocktail that has quickly risen in popularity and become a cult favorite in the last decade after being rediscovered and introduced to popular mixology from Seattle’s famed Zig Zag Cafe. If you’ve never tried this, time to hit up your local cocktail bar and order up!
This pale green concoction has a very unique ingredient spec – 4 equal parts of gin, Green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur, and lime juice – a ratio and flavor profile that has since laid the groundwork for so many amazing variations (check out @wehavethelastword for some creative versions)! Similar to how the Planter’s Punch ratio of “1 of sour, 2 of sweet, 3 of strong, 4 of weak” served as the basis for so many tiki punch recipes, the Last Word ratio is a similarly amazing blueprint. The gin and chartreuse bring the herbal and spirituous nose, the maraschino adds bittersweetness, and the lime balances it out perfectly with refreshing tartness.
