Ti’ Punch (Paranubes)

Recipe

  • 2oz rhum agricole (I used Paranubes, a Mexican sugarcane based rum similar to French agricole rhums)
  • Barspoon of cane syrup (or just rich simple syrup – 2 part sugar/1 part water), or to taste
  • Lime disc (slice along the edge of the lime)

Pour rum into a glass. Add your sugar syrup. Squeeze a wedge of lime and drop the entire peel in the drink (important!). Stir well to combine. Add an ice cube if you feel so inclined.

About

The Ti’ Punch is one of the simplest and most delicious drinks out there and is the classic drink to enjoy for any agricole-style rum. Agricole rhum (French spelling of “rum”) is a style of rum traditionally produced in the French Caribbean islands that is made from fresh sugarcane juice instead of the more-common molasses (which most rums are made from). The result is a grassy earthy flavor that is distinctively unique and as different from a molasses rum as a smokey mezcal is different from tequila.

Ti’ Punch is short for PeTIte punch and is a classic drink common in the French islands (the national drink of Martinique!). It’s often served “deconstructed” to allow guests to create their own variation to taste with the 3 key ingredients of agricole rhum, lime wedge (peel and juice), and cane/sugar syrup. Ice is optional and I prefer mine without.
