Recipe
inspired by a drink from Hide Out in Seattle
- 1.5oz Rum Fire Jamaican White Overproof rum
- .25oz berry shrub (I used my homemade blueberry fig shrub)
- .5oz lime juice
- .5oz Benedictine
- .25oz Creme de Violette (I used Rothman&Winter)
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain over a fresh Angostura ice cube (just make your ice with about 7 drops of Angostura bitters).
About
This was an interesting creation that is very different from any other Rum Fire drink I’ve tasted with quite the unique assortment of ingredients. Like every drink made with the incredible Rum Fire (which honestly is a big bully in cocktails, but hey, it’s a rockstar that desires all its limelight), the potent fruity funk of the rum does not make any attempt to hide.
It comes at your taste buds full force, but in this concoction becomes even fruitier paired with the berry shrub and herbal/floral flavors from the Benedictine and violet liqueur. A shrub is basically a sweet&sour mix usually made with sugar-macerated fruit and vinegar, giving it a bit of a different type of acidity compared to citrus.
