About
Out of all my travels, New Orleans is definitely one of my absolute FAVORITE cities in the world. This is the Vieux Carré, a famous classic cocktail from the historic Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter. Inside the Hotel Monteleone (which has been around since the late 1800s) is the Carousel Bar, a bar that is literally a rotating carousel that makes a round every 15 minutes. It is an incredible experience that you should not miss if you’re ever in New Orleans.
“Vieux Carré” means “Old Square” – the name of the original town that’s now the French Quarter, and the cocktail is composed of ingredients that pay tribute to the diverse ethnic background of the inhabitants of the old town: rye for American, cognac and Benedictine for French, vermouth for Italian, and the bitters for the Caribbean natives. Flavor-wise, it’s similar to the Sazerac and De La Louisiane, and oh-so-delicious (especially with the ratios below). If you like Manhattans and boozy spirit-forward drinks, give this one a try! Have you been to New Orleans yet?
