Recipe

by Zachary Gelnaw-Rubin from Dutch Kills

  • 1oz reposado tequila (I used Cimarron, a great budget friendly option!)
  • 1oz Amaro Averna
  • .75oz lemon juice
  • .33oz maple syrup (make sure you use a real 100% maple syrup, not some weird high fructose corn syrup maple-flavored thing)

Combine all ingredients and shake with ice. Strain into a coupe and express the oils from a lemon peel over top. Garnish with a twist.

About

Rich, decadent, sweet agave tequila, mmmm you with me yet? This is the dark nectar of the gods. The “Debbie, Don’t” is a cocktail from the NY bar Dutch Kills that is freaking delicious. In the modern cocktail bar where 2-2.5oz of spirit is now the norm, this one is slightly lower on the alcohol scale, making it easier to enjoy more!

Step aside, margaritas, we’ve got a new drink in the house, and it’s bittersweet and indulgent. The Averna amaro truly elevates and adds incredible complexity to this drink, not to mention that lovely mysterious color.
