My Thai

Recipe

  • 2oz gin (Falcon Spirits Botanica)
  • .5oz coconut cream (I used Coco Real)
  • .75oz lime juice
  • Few chunks of mango
  • 2 kaffir lime leaves
  • (optional) Couple drops of fish sauce. If you’re less adventurous, try a sprinkling of salt

In a shaker, muddle mango and kaffir lime leaves well, then add ice and other ingredients and shake thoroughly. Strain into a glass full of fresh crushed ice and garnish with the used kaffir lime leaf from the shaker (brings so much aroma!). I also added a pandan leaf.

About

Wow, this is probably one of the tastiest original recipes I’ve ever made. And also one of the most adventurous, with the incorporation of FISH SAUCE. After wanting to try a drink with fish sauce for over a year, I finally did it, and the result did not disappoint.

Fish sauce aside, the magic ingredient in this recipe is the kaffir lime leaf, which is one of the most amazing aromatics in the world (no joke) and a staple in Thai cooking. I’ve been on the hunt for this for a very long time, and was so excited when my local Whole Foods started carrying it! I can seriously just smell this all day.

Inspired by kaffir (aka makrut) lime leaves, this drink incorporates traditional Thai flavors, and actually tasted like a cross between a super authentic Thai dish and a tiki drink. I made this for a few Drinkstagram friends the other week during a get-together, and I think everyone really enjoyed it, so that’s definitely a win when you can impress your cocktail-saavy friends. If you can find some kaffir lime leaves, give this a try!

What’s the most interesting ingredient you’ve seen in a cocktail?
