Revolver

Recipe

  • 2oz bourbon (I used Henry McKenna 10yr)
  • .5oz coffee liqueur (I used Mr. Black)
  • 2 dashes orange bitters

Stir all ingredients with ice, then strain into a cold coupe glass. Light a flame, grab a slice of orange peel, and gently squeeze to release the oils from the peel into the flame. Drop in.

About

Coming at ya with a modern classic today…who doesn’t love coffee and bourbon? ☕️+🥃=❤️ The perfect duo!

The Revolver is a modern classic created about 15 years ago by SF bartender Jon Santer and popularized at the famous Bourbon & Branch speakeasy. Bourbon & Branch was probably the single most pivotal trailblazing bar that shaped the San Francisco modern cocktail scene into what it is today, and is still one of my absolute favorites – an exploration of San Francisco cocktail culture is not complete without a visit to B&B.

The drink is a riff of a Manhattan that is simple yet elegant, and spirit forward enough to warm your soul. It will definitely change a lot depending on your choice of coffee liqueur, as they vary significantly in sweetness level, coffee intensity, and bean type/roast. The Mr. Black coffee liqueur I used is medium sweet and tastes quite close to a sweetened and boozed cold brew – the natural coffee flavor really comes through.

If you want to recreate the original, use Bulleit bourbon and Tia Maria coffee liqueur.
