Recipe
- 1.5oz Rhum Barbancourt White (this is a light rum that’s not as grassy as most agricole rums, but still has some fresh vegetal flavors. Sub an agricole rum as needed)
- .5oz passionfruit syrup (I used Small Hand Foods)
- .5oz lemon juice
- 2oz The Owl’s Brew That’s My Jam
- Barspoon of Rum Fire white overproof Jamaican rum (you can sub Wray&Nephew)
Mix everything together in a tall highball glass with crushed ice. Stir well to combine and enjoy.
About
Craft cocktails and craft beers have all been booming in the recent years, so it’s about time the worlds collided! The Owl’s Brew is a female-led company seeking to bring the complex and intricate flavors of tea to the cocktail world. For me? Well, I had to try it when I saw they had a product called “That’s My Jam,” which is (somewhat embarrassingly) a regular phrase in my vocabulary.
The Owl’s Brew has a line of tea-based cocktail mixers as well as tea-beer hybrids. “That’s My Jam” is an amber ale infused with hibiscus darjeeling tea, strawberry, and lemon. These beer/tea/cocktail-mixer combos are definitely crafted with cocktail creation in mind, as they’re a bit too thick and sweet to drink on its own (in my opinion).
To pair with its slightly bitter, yet fruit-forward flavors, I thought a makeshift tiki drink was in store. The fruity flavors of the “beer” paired fantastically with the lighter fruitier rums I chose. It’s fun when “artisan” beverages collide, and I challenge you all to try a cocktail with another popular beverage you love outside the world of spirits, whether that be a tea, cold brew coffee, kombucha, beer, craft soda, or wine!
