Vodka

Vodka is legally defined as any spirit that is odorless, colorless and distilled to at least 180 proof (95%). The process of distillation removes most of the organic compounds that produce flavor, resulting in a largely flavorless spirit. It can be made from grains, fruits, plants, or anything else. There’s even vodkas made from milk, honey, and more! It’s often brought down to about 40% before bottling. There is little detectable flavor differences in vodkas (by principle and definition!), especially when mixed in cocktails. That said, it’s often a great base to showcase other flavors through infusions and macerations. Be cautioned – not all vodkas are naturally flavored.
